On Monday, the premiere of the new film Black Nativity made its way to NYC and it surely was a star studded affair held at the world renowned Apollo Theater in Harlem. With the combination of Harlem being such a historic site for creatives during the Harlem Renaissance and Langston Hughes being a domineering force in literature and literary aptitude, it was completely appropriate for NYC and The Apollo Theater to premiere this Hughes adaptation. The film Black Nativity, which is a modern-day version of the musical play of the same name by the incomparable Langston Hughes penned in the 1950’s, shadows a young Baltimore teen named Langston played by Jacob Lattimore, as he finds adventure and temptations of the street life in Harlem, NY while staying with his grandparents played by Forrest Whittaker and Angela Bassett, despite his longing to find his way back home to his mother played by Jennifer Hudson after she suffers through financial turmoil. The all-star cast includes the previously named Angela Bassett, Forrest Whittaker, Jennifer Hudson and Jacob Lattimore as well as Mary J. Blige, Nasir Jones, Tyrese Gibson, and a host of other talents. Watch the musical film just in time for the holidays when it hits theaters November 27!
