In one of the most discussed shows of Paris Fashion Week yet, designer Rick Owens debut his 2014 Ready to Wear Collection in a very unorthodox way by bringing in step squads of DC and New York City as well as HBCU sorors to step dance down the runway while displaying the fashion. The women were of a full range spectrum of shapes, sizes, and color and were definitely a complete deviation of what we usually see at a high profile, high fashion runway show. It was certainly refreshing to see something innovative that was connected to the women and message of the show rather than purely innovative theatrics. Owens describes the performance based runway show as inclusive and open for all body types rather than just the fashion world. “This was also an exercise in working with a lot of body types to really think in broader terms. How do I make it as accessible to everybody instead of making it an exclusive fashion world, make it as inclusive as I possibly can.” See more pics of the event and the entire Rick Owens Fashion Show in full below!
