Bringing in the New Year with a bang, Pajamas and a Purpose Inc., a non profit founded by Carline Beaubrun, organized an event in which women from all different backgrounds were able to attend to feel empowered while embracing the essence of being a phenomenal woman.
The Pajamas and a Purpose New Year, New Me Empowerment Brunch took place at the Viana Hotel and Spa in Westbury, NY on Sunday, January 12, 2020. Beaubrun created the event to be exclusively for women by women. From the motivational session to dancing in a Conga line, women went from shedding a few tears to later waving their napkins in the air as they celebrated women empowerment. With the huge smiles on everyone’s faces, the delicious brunch menu and the bottomless mimosas, this event was truly one of a kind.
Host Jessica Sinclair made everyone feet welcomed while carrying out the hashtag #pajamasandapurpose. During the motivational session, speakers Nijaah Howard, Sharon Devonish Leid and Renee Flagler shared the many obstacles they faced and how they were able to overcome them. These women spoke about personal issues they faced that could’ve knocked them down, but they kept pushing and prospered through those milestones. Guests were able to connect with these speakers, who made them feel like no matter what they go through, they are not alone and have a story to tell.
The event also recognized the issue of domestic violence by having Jennifer Capezza, the Director of Development and Outreach of Long Island Against Domestic Violence, speak about the non profit’s hotline and how it helps victims anytime, anywhere and in any circumstance. Proceeds from the event benefited the organization.
As the event continued, guests were separated into two groups. The first group of women were able to create a 2020 vision board of their future goals or enjoy relaxing massages while the second group went into a private room for a breathing session hosted by Breathing Technician Kathleen Brooker. During the breathing exercise, women were able to release anything holding them back to seek true freedom.
From the beautifully decorated centerpieces to the oversized teddy bear photo op, each woman left the event with a swag bag filled with a print copy of Bronze Magazine’s January issue featuring Carline Beaubrun on the cover, toiletries, delicious treats and an agenda of future Pajamas and a Purpose events.
Carline Beaubrun came a long way before Pajamas and a Purpose. In 2008, she was going through a divorce and a market crash while trying to be financially stable for her three kids. With her strong spirituality with God, she decided to do something she enjoyed and created her event designing business. Doing something that she loved motivated her to keep going and never stop. With the support of her family she continued to expand her business while helping others. In 2010, she designed her own birthday party, then realized that it was something she wanted to pursue full time, so she created the non profit, Pajamas and a Purpose Inc.
Beaubrun used the pajamas idea so women can have fun in their most cozy and comfortable clothes. As her business was booming, she didn’t stop there, she partnered with an organization called Birthday Wishes where she and her team are able to provide parties for the children in shelters. Aside from being an amazing mother, Beaubrun runs two businesses and sits on the board of multiple organizations. She loves helping people because she knows that if she could overcome what she went through, anyone can. Maya Angelou once said, “As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself, the other for helping others.” In Beaubrun’s case, she didn’t stop when she was at a low point in her life. Instead, she worked on herself and worked on helping women and kids that she encountered.
