Alex Louis-Jacques, a.k.a. Miss Alex or Lady B, is the baby singer.
She is the creator of Lavender Blues, a music school in Brooklyn whose early enrichment program focuses on music and movement for ages 0-3. The 40-minute classes include fun, acapella singing, and great energy.
Miss Alex’s latest venture, Lavender Blues TV Pilot, is creating buzz on YouTube. Since turning her class into a TV show, it’s received 82,000 views. “That’s without any advertising, and solely word of mouth,” she said. Not bad for a former nanny.
Being a nanny prepared Miss Alex for Lavender Blues. “I have an understanding of toddler behavior and became good at communicating with them,” she shares. When her communicating skills were questioned, Miss Alex immediately says she uses baby sign language.
“Everyone’s heard of the terrible-twos. During that time, they’ve learned so much. They just want to communicate, but can’t. If you give them ways to communicate, it helps in abundance.”
Miss Alex continues, “I taught them sign language. One example is a squeezed fist means, “milk.” If they wanted to be “changed,” put one fist on top of the other first, and move the top fist in a circular motion.”
After being a nanny in London, Miss Alex returned home at age 31, and decided she didn’t want to be a nanny anymore. She wanted a new venture, but as a college drop-out, “I knew my options were limited.” But her knowledge of children and a schedule that suited her, led to a business plan.
When deciding a name for her music school, Miss Alex said, “I did good old-fashion brain-storming.”
“I wanted something people could recognize and something pretty. I chose the word lavender because the plant helps with anxiety, sleeping, and teething, which is what all young families deal with. Secondly, lavender is magical for babies and toddlers. Its very calm and soothing. I also chose the word blue, because it was my favorite color and it’s a musical genre, with an added s.”
When Miss Alex wrote Lavender Blues, it looked pretty to her. When she Googled the name, nothing appeared in the search engine.

Though her music school would center on her little Bunnies (the children) as she affectionately calls them, Miss Alex wanted Lavender Blues to assist the parent(s) as well.
“As a nanny, I worked for a lot of first-time parents. When you’re having a baby, usually your friends aren’t. So, I wanted to create a space where new families could have a community.”
Interestingly, the group of caregivers that wanted a video or CD from Miss Alex were the grandmothers. So, Miss Alex transformed herself into Lady B. and produced an album called,“The REMIXES,” (available for purchase on iTunes.) When asked which song was her favorite, she said, “I love me.”
“The song is created for self-love. Self-love is the best love.”
In 2023, parents can expect new music from Lady B. Besides more 90s’ baby hip hop, Miss Alex says she wants to, “Bring Lavender Blues to the masses, like Mr. Rogers. In every home across the U.S. I want underprivileged children to be able to access me.”
Once she’s the face of children’s programming, Miss Alex would love to join John Legend and Jennifer Hudson on the EGOT list.
