One of the hardest things about women’s hair is determining exactly how to style it. You wash it, but then you have to figure out what the next step will be. If you have kinky, curly, or wavy hair, the next step is not only crucial, it can be so time consuming that you want to make sure you’ve made the right choice. Should I curl it, or should I straighten it? There are a number of things you can take into account when determining the answer to this question.
For one, the weather should play a big factor in how you decide to style your hair. If the weather is hot/ humid or stormy, it would be a good idea not to straighten your hair because the heat will ruin your hairstyle. It would be a safe bet that curly is the way to go. However, how you style your curls is important too. If you use heat to create your curls, you might not want to if it is hot out or raining. In this case, you should stick to your natural curls, waves, etc. or use methods that don’t require heat.
If it is cold out, and you have big hair, it would be wise to choose styles that decrease the size of your hair (if you wear hats). This doesn’t mean you have to straighten your hair, but you can. Or you could use heat to create your curls, but that’s totally up to you.
How active you’ll be for that week (depending on how often you restyle your hair) should also go into determining the style of your hair. If you’re going to be sweating or in water (swimming), or doing any other kind of activity, you might consider non-heat dependent styles. Thinking about these things can reduce the heat damage to your hair.
You also might want to take the weather into account because of how you’ll dress. Hairstyles can make or break an outfit, and this can help you decide what to do with your hair. Sometimes a woman’s hair can look better up if it’s straight, or down if it’s curly. All of this can be taken into account. (Of course whether to put it up or leave it down is another dilemma, though it is much simpler.)
Your daily schedule can also help you choose your hairstyle. If you know that your hair is easier to manage straight or curly, you might want to choose one to save on time in the morning. Or even base it on how hectic or leisurely your week will be.
It is no secret that some ladies prefer curly hair to straight hair and vice versa. Also, some ladies like to switch it up every now and then. But the most important thing to take into account when deciding whether or not to curl your hair should be how you prefer your hair. It is your hair, and if you are comfortable with it curly or with it straight is up to you.
