Fall is officially here – which means the top floor at Eataly Flatiron is officially an Autumn dream. Leaves, seasonal cocktails, and that fresh, fun feeling of fall are all in the air. Grab those plaid flannels and shawls! New to the menu is the “Floating Into Fall” cocktail. For anyone who is not able to try it themselves in person, the team at Eataly shared exactly what we need to try it at home, with a bit of a twist!
What we needed:
- 2oz Bourbon
- .5oz Amaretto
- .5oz Amaro
- 1oz Lemon Juice
- .5oz Maple Syrup
- Honestly, check out that typical Sunday morning syrup
- 1oz Egg White (or 1 whole egg white)
- As someone who is not a fan of egg whites, this did not make the cut – sorry Eataly!
- Maple Sugar Dust Garnish
- Subbed with cinnamon!
This one called for a dry shake prior to a wet shake, before straining. As an amateur cocktail connoisseur, I had to look this one up. A dry shake is usually done before a wet shake, and includes combining ingredients before adding ice. It is a technique usually used when egg whites are involved, which makes complete sense! Even with no egg whites, the dry shake is still a fun added step. Add ice for the wet shake to chill.
From there, Eataly recommends straining before the final part – a dusted garnish. A stencil would be helpful, but do not be afraid to freestyle. They used maple sugar dust, but in the spirit of using what is in the cabinet already, cinnamon is a winner.
And that is it! A fun take on a SERRA classic. For those in the city, check out how the pros do it at SERRA by Birreria, which opened in September with the full fall set up. It is open Monday to Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on the 14th floor of Eataly in Flatiron. For more information, visit www.eataly.com.
