I know we are in the middle of summer, but we’re beginning to see some fall collections appear. We’ve all scaled back on our makeup routine due to the warm weather, and with the sight of some fall collections, I decided to get a head start on revamping my makeup bag. I’ve been wanting to try some brands targeted for women of color, but we all know how difficult it can be to find such targeted brands in stores. Shopping online for makeup isn’t ideal since it can be difficult to match shades to your skin tone; in this case, sometimes we have to mix two shades to get the right color, and who wants to return everything?
I found three brands: BlackUp Cosmetics, Sleek Makeup, and Sacha Cosmetics, that I would like to give the green light to. Luckily, they all have the option of purchasing sample foundation cards. For BlackUp Cosmetics, you’ll receive 3 shades, and for Sleek Makeup and Sacha Cosmetics you’ll receive five shades to choose from. The only option you need to make is choosing the card that has your closest shade on it. From there you can experiment, or mix-and- match. I find this to be perfect because we are in the summer season and we all tend to get a shade or two darker in the sun. Having a sample card will allow us to try several different shades as our summer tans wear off.
With all three cosmetic companies, the sample cards range from $3-$5. The bonus is they can be purchased alone. I think this is a great opportunity to test a brand before making an investment in them. And of course all three are brown girl friendly. Take a look at the samples below:
