If you’re like me, you avoid making a full, balanced breakfast in order to make it to work on time. Before you debate on using your spare five minutes to make a stop at Starbucks, consider a homemade breakfast smoothie. Not only are smoothies quick and easy to make, they’re also packed with vitamins and minerals that give your body that extra boost of energy needed for the day. One of my favorites is the sweet, yet tangy Strawberry-banana-orange smoothie. This fruit-trio is loaded with Vitamin C, antioxidants, and potassium that strengthen your bones, nerves, and immune system. Since fruits are water-based, breakfast smoothies help keep you hydrated and hunger-satisfied. The preparation time is simply five minutes. Grab a blender and toss in the following:
1 cup of frozen strawberries
½ cup of orange juice
½ cup of ice cubes
All you have to do it is blend until even, pour it into a to-go cup and go! The orange juice and strawberries already have a natural sweet taste, so no need to add any sugar. The mixture tends to amount to 8-10 ounces and is equivalent to less than 300 calories (a café mocha & blueberry muffin from Starbucks for breakfast would amount to over twice as much, and still leave you feeling hungry two hours later).
Feel free to experiment and try mixing your own favorite fruit combos. Ladies, let’s make a vow to take better care of our bodies. That means no more starving mornings and cutting down on fast food for breakfast! Once you find your favorite smoothie, I guarantee you’ll never go back.
