An Open Letter to Single Women and Self Love

Hello Bronze Beauties! recently we gave date ideas for Valentine’s Day with your friends and lovers. But we also wanted to touch a different type of love.

YOU, our lovely reader.

Some of you need to remind yourselves that it is indeed ok to hang out with yourself. So we have some tough words and ideas to practice self love. And who better to help us than India Arie.

Known for her videos on self love with soulful hits such as “I Am Not My Hair,” “Brown Skin,” and “Video,” India has been ahead of the curve on self love. As we reference her lyrics, we remind ourselves of the messages that we sometimes forget to tell ourselves throughout the year.

And I know my creator didn’t make no mistakes on me
My feet, my thighs, my Lips, my eyes, I’m loving what I see

-India Arie, Video

We understand that this may have been told to you before. Even from us as a magazine celebrating self-love, we cannot express this enough. You are all beautiful and need to remind yourselves that your beauty is your beauty. And you shouldn’t have to forget or forgo or question that.

Over the years we have included all types of beauty, from our various media coverage, to even selecting diverse models of every skin tone, size, and style in our articles.

I’m not the average girl from your video
And I ain’t built like a supermodel

But I learned to love myself unconditionally,
Because I am a queen

-India Arie, Video

Some of the biggest issues people have with love, pursuing or receiving, is that they gauge their  self value based on the love they receive from others or from how others receive it. And if they don’t have that external form of validation they feel less of…well just less.

But another person, regardless of how close they are, doesn’t completely  show you how much of an awesome, empowering woman that you are. You make that happen for you from yourself. And in modern media, it seems that sometimes the core objective is to not be happy with you as you are. But we at Bronze Magazine want you to be the best you you can be.

So get in when you fit in
Go on and shine
Clear your mind
Now’s the time
Put your salt on the shelf
Go on and love yourself
‘Cause everything’s gonna be alright

-India Arie, Video

Whether that love is coming from watching Netflix, giving yourself a pedicure, or treating yourself to sushi or making your own personal mantra in the mirror, you have to start receiving love from the most important person in the world. YOU!

Things You Can Do For Self Love:
