So you graduated college, now what are you going to do? If you are going through this stressful and confusing period following graduation then you definitely aren’t alone. Here are some tips and advice to help you figure out how to maneuver this new chapter of your life.
1. Post grad depression is real but it won’t last forever
After undergrad is over you will feel a little sad. This is referred to as post grad depression and it can happen right after you graduate or a year after. Everything that you had grown accustomed to over the past four years is suddenly taken away. You are left with a ‘what now’ feeling and dealing with the fact that you aren’t going back to school is hard. This feeling will eventually go away as you start to figure out what you want to do in life.
2. It’s okay if you don’t get a job right after you graduate
After spending four years dedicated to a major and working your butt off to get a degree you are most likely hoping to get a job after you graduate. However, for most people it is hard to get a job right after you’re done with college. Don’t be disappointed if your stuck at a job you don’t like or have to work multiple odd jobs.
3. Learn to save your money
Being an adult means learning how to budget your money. Going from being a broke college student to now having money, it may be tempting to spend it. It’s important to budget and save your money. Whether you save for an apartment or to pay off student loans, you will thank yourself later.
4. Keep yourself busy
Leaving college is exciting but also sad because you will miss your friends and all the memories you made. It also might feel weird that you aren’t going back to school in the fall. The best thing to do is to keep yourself busy to keep your mind off of it. Focus on things that make you happy. You can start a new hobby, travel, or spend time with friends.
5. Don’t be afraid of failure
This sounds very cliche but the biggest thing that can stop you from succeeding or trying new things is the fear of failure. It’s better to try something and fail at it than to not try at all. This is something that you should keep in mind throughout life.
