Neo Soul singer-songwriter Lauryn Hill will be presented with the prestigious American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) Golden Note Award, at the 28th annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards this month. She joins a bevy of talented past Golden Note recipients, including: Sean “Diddy” Combs, LL Cool J, Jermaine Dupri, Jay-Z, Lionel Ritchie, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Pharrell Williams, Dr. Dre, Alicia Keys and many more. The award will be given to Hill in recognition of her talent and success in the entertainment industry. She is also scheduled to perform at the invitation-only event, which takes place on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles. In a statement this week, ASCAP president Paul Williams cited Hill’s “ability to push boundaries and capture the humanity that surrounds us.” He added that “Ms. Hill’s talent as a songwriter is undeniable and reflects her singular take on the world we live in.” R&B recording artist Jazmine Sullivan is set to take the stage as well. The awards show honors songwriters and publishers of the most-performed ASCAP songs of the past year from the R&B, hip-hop, rap and gospel charts. Here are the other honors that are going to be awarded throughout the evening: Songwriter of the Year, Publisher of the Year, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Song, Top Rap Song and Top Gospel Song. The ceremony will feature electrifying performances by several award-winning songwriters/performers, and some of the top names in the music and entertainment industry are expected to be in attendance. Hill shot to fame in the mid-1990’s as frontwoman of The Fugees, whose sophomore record “The Score” sold fifteen million copies worldwide. In 1998, she released her critically acclaimed, multiplatinum debut solo album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.” She has won numerous awards throughout her 22-year career, including: American Music Awards, Grammy Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, Soul Train Music Awards and World Music Awards. Hill, who just celebrated her 40th birthday on May 26, will bring her “Small Axe” tour overseas in July with tour dates in France, Spain, Italy and Belgium.
