Saturday Night Live has named D’Angelo as its musical guest for an upcoming episode in January. The neo-soul artist will be joined by his band, The Vanguard, for their first televised appearance since 2001. The host will be J.K. Simmons. The episode airs January 31 at 10:30 p.m./11:30 p.m. EST on NBC.
D’Angelo and The Vanguard will also be performing at The Apollo for a one-night-only concert (SOLD OUT) event on Saturday, February 7 at 8:00 p.m. He recently made a triumphant return to the music scene with the release of his critically acclaimed new album, Black Messiah, the first album he’s released in 15 years. They will be performing songs from Black Messiah, as well as other hits just before heading off on the “The Second Coming” European Tour. This concert will be D’Angelo’s first time as the headlining act at the iconic theater. In 1991, D’Angelo competed in the famous Amateur Night at the Apollo when he was just 16 years old. He used his winnings from that performance to purchase recording equipment that would eventually help him make his hit debut album, Brown Sugar. Tickets for the show go on sale Wednesday, January 21.
